The Construction and Real Estate industry are two sectors that are way behind other industries (like FinTech) when talking about implementing technology, social innovation and digitalisation. I think that this fact will give the first movers a lot of great opportunities to create new business and better margins.
I would like to share some great articles about ConTech and PropTech, about Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality.
I think 2018 will be the year of the HoloLens. This year, many companies are looking for the first opportunities to implement HoloLens within their business. I love it when business owners share their success and grant it to others. Thank you very much, James, for letting me fill in for you during your vacation. See you in London during Tony Robbins Unleash the Power Within seminar 😉
A Dutch PropTech startup, Crozzroads, has been able to cooperate in the rental and sale of the Atrium on the Zuidas Amsterdam. Crozzroads made a totally new tool for property managers, called an availability tool. This tool makes it possible to visualise important information about the property like square meters, commercial space, shops, living space and distances to major places such as airports. In 2017 the Atrium (a 60,000 sqm of office accommodation) was sold. At €500 million, the Atrium deal is biggest ever Dutch single property transaction.
Probably the best read guy in the world is Peter Diamandis. He was named one of “The World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” and is co-founder of the Singularity University. Every week I receive his Abundance Insider newsletter.
Peter tells us, in this article, about no more need for real estate agents and how 98% of the searching is done from the comfort of your own living room with virtual reality. This article is from 2015 so please read it and note how far we are already with adapting PropTech.
This is the first YouTube video that really did make an impact on me. It is a video about a BIM Cave build by Martin Bros. They use the HoloLens to build a bathroom without any plan at all. Wow! By using tools like HoloLens you can build faster, with fewer mistakes and without having to measure.
What does the PropTech market look like in 2017? What can we expect to see more of? What is ‘the next big thing’ in PropTech? These are just some of the questions answered in the MetaPropcast, a podcast interview series developed by MetaProp NYC.
Listen to the latest podcast in full, which hears from Founding Partner of MetaProp NYC and PropTech Angel Investor Zach Aarons about how he became interested in PropTech and his views on the future of the PropTech market. Also, definitely worth reading is this review of PropTech 2017 from Dan Hughes.
Meet Dennis, the Dutch expert on HoloLens developments. He is one of the world’s most prolific evangelists and he is a ten times awardee of the Microsoft MVP Award 🙂 Dennis was in 2016 on a big Dutch television show called ‘DWDD’. Dennis did write a must read developer’s guide. I am sorry this is not for free.
I just read this article about 1.5 weeks ago and it really fascinated me. No more need for office space with using augmented reality? Could this be reality? Please listen to the excellent regular podcast and read the article (in the article is also a great video).
On episode 67, James Benham, Josh Bone and Kris Lengeiza discuss the latest ConTech news. At minute 48:00 they start talking about VR and AR. This episode has a special guest: Ricardo Khan. In the interview, Ricardo discusses how to leverage technology and solve key gaps that affect the field. Ricardo and the ConTechTrio wrapped up the interview by discussing Oculus Rift vs. HTC Vive, steps to optimize construction and prefabrication, as well as, the future of augmented and virtual reality throughout the industry.
8. Virtual Reality -How you will buy your house in 2025. This will be a totally different ball game than it is in 2017. Drones, big data and, of course, Virtual Reality will have a large impact on how we buy a house. It is time for an Uber moment in the PropTech industry. Will we be using Virtual Reality to buy our next house?
After reading some stuff about VR, AR or MR, you would probably like to make your over VR experiences. That is possible with, for instance, a Dutch PropTech called Smart2VR. They created a free guide to learn how to create 360 degrees app. You can download the free pdf here.
This is the one article that is a must read for everyone who doesn’t know anything yet about this topic. I did search and read a lot of article about the explanation of the differences between VR, AR and MR. This article does the best job in my opinion.
